Power Series is Raya Matta’s latest body of work, exploring the seductive and transformative nature of power through the recurring image of a crisp white shirt: an enduring symbol of authority, order, and status.
What begins as a garment worn by a figure gradually separates from the body, expanding in scale and significance until it becomes an autonomous presence. As the shirt grows, the human figure diminishes and eventually disappears, suggesting that power can evolve beyond the individual who first embodies it.
Set against stark monochromatic backgrounds, the oversized white shirt becomes a monumental form that dominates each composition.
